Enhanced Condensation on Soft Materials through Bulk Lubricant Infusion
نویسندگان
چکیده
Soft substrates enhance droplet nucleation during water vapor condensation because their deformability inherently reduces the energetic threshold for heterogeneous relative to rigid substrates. However, this enhancement is counteracted later in cycle, when substrate viscoelastic dissipation inhibits condensate shedding. Here a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) based organogel designed overcome limitation. It shown that merely 5% bulk lubricant infusion PDMS by nearly 28 times while doubling density. Parameters on are correlated with material properties controlled design, i.e., fraction and composition of uncrosslinked chains shear modulus. demonstrated increase density reduction precoalescence growth rate rather insensitive percentage within broad range investigated. These results indicate presence layer surface cloaks growing droplets. This cloaking effect visualized, it occurs significantly faster if infused lubricant. Overall, enhances leads more than 40% higher dewing substrate.

Enhanced bulk catalyst dissolution for self-healing materials†
A model was developed to aid in the selection of healing monomers that can rapidly dissolve catalysts in self-healing materials. Predictions are made regarding dissolution rates of Grubbs’ catalyst in a small library of ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP)-active norbornenyl-based healing monomers. The Grubbs’ catalyst and the healing monomers were experimentally assigned sets of Hanse...
متن کاملPreventing mussel adhesion using lubricant-infused materials.
Mussels are opportunistic macrofouling organisms that can attach to most immersed solid surfaces, leading to serious economic and ecological consequences for the maritime and aquaculture industries. We demonstrate that lubricant-infused coatings exhibit very low preferential mussel attachment and ultralow adhesive strengths under both controlled laboratory conditions and in marine field studies...
متن کاملWater adsorption on TiO2 surfaces probed by soft X-ray spectroscopies: bulk materials vs. isolated nanoparticles
We describe an experimental method to probe the adsorption of water at the surface of isolated, substrate-free TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) based on soft X-ray spectroscopy in the gas phase using synchrotron radiation. To understand the interfacial properties between water and TiO2 surface, a water shell was adsorbed at the surface of TiO2 NPs. We used two different ways to control the hydration le...

abstract listening is a key and main tool in second language skill and its development is of prime concern to teachers and learners. furthermore, the application of technology in language classrooms has become more commonplace in the last fifty years. computer and the internet have made foreign language materials easy to access and use. so, the present study is an attempt to examine the effec...
Steady-state diffusion of water through soft-contact-lens materials.
Water transport through soft contact lenses (SCL) is important for acceptable performance on the human eye. Chemical-potential gradient-driven diffusion rates of water through SCL materials are measured with an evaporation-cell technique. Water is evaporated from the bottom surface of a lens membrane by impinging air at controlled flow rate and humidity. The resulting weight loss of a water res...
